Seller guide

Why did my eBay search traffic drop while direct or store views held?

Compare like-for-like eBay Traffic snapshots, validate source totals, and separate a source-share shift from a conversion shift without inventing a cause.

Create comparable aggregate traffic snapshots

Export the same marketplace and reporting cadence for at least two periods. Keep only a seller-owned listing alias, optional SKU, direct views, off-eBay views, search-results views, store views, other-eBay views, total views, search and store impressions, and transactions. Remove buyer, order, address, contact, message, and instruction data. Mark listings that were new, ended, out of stock, promoted differently, or active for only part of a window; their periods are not clean before-and-after comparisons even when the date ranges have equal length.

Validate the additive and conversion identities first

For every listing and snapshot, add direct, off-eBay, search-results, store, and other-eBay views and compare the sum with supplied total views. Recompute transactions divided by total views when total views is positive, and preserve an undefined state when it is zero. Flag a supplied conversion rate outside the seller's tolerance rather than choosing one silently. Rows with a broken identity remain source-review items; a source-share story built on inconsistent totals is not decision-ready.

Compare source counts and shares together

For each source, calculate its count change and its share of total views in the first and latest appearances. A lower search share can happen because search views fell, because another source grew faster, or both. Keep all three facts visible. Separate listings missing from the latest snapshot and listings new to it from true drift rows. Rank the largest seller-defined share movements, but retain impressions, views, transactions, and conversion movement so a low-volume percentage swing is not mistaken for a large loss.

Investigate the live listing and acquisition context

For search-view weakness, check current query relevance, title and item specifics, listing status, inventory, price, delivery promise, campaign state, and any known marketplace or seasonal context. For direct, store, or off-eBay changes, verify the seller's own promotions, links, store placement, and reporting definitions. This comparison does not identify why a traffic source changed, reveal search placement, establish causality, or predict the lift from any listing or advertising change.

Test one reviewable hypothesis in a later window

Write down the exact evidence, smallest fact-supported change, date, and other variables that stayed stable. If a human chooses to revise a listing, compare a later like-for-like window only after sufficient exposure accumulates. Use source counts, shares, total views, and conversion together; improvement in one measure can hide deterioration in another. Friday produces a diagnostic draft only and never edits listings, creates promotions, changes ad rates, or modifies an eBay seller account.

Tools that help with this

Prices below are exact x402 per-call prices. Human card checkout uses fixed $3, $9, and $29 bundles; follow a tool page to see its applicable bundle.

Every paid output is a draft for your review before you publish, appeal, or activate anything. Friday does not access your seller account.
