How do I plan for an Amazon Subscribe & Save stockout without losing margin?

Combine seller-supplied Subscribe & Save forecasts, out-of-stock revenue, retention, inventory, lead time, discounts, fees, and costs into a bounded replenishment review queue.

Align the performance snapshot and cumulative forecast

Use one Amazon marketplace, currency, snapshot date, and declared performance window. Preserve shipped subscription units, total subscription revenue, lost revenue due to out-of-stock, subscriber retention, and the cumulative 30-, 60-, and 90-day unit and revenue forecasts exactly as supplied. Confirm that each cumulative series never decreases. Mixing snapshots or treating a 60-day total as an additional monthly bucket double-counts demand. These inputs are snapshots, not a guarantee that future subscriptions will ship.

Translate lead time and safety stock into one review horizon

Add seller-supplied lead-time days and safety-stock days, keeping the combined horizon within the supplied 90-day forecast. Estimate cumulative units at that horizon from the surrounding forecast points and disclose the interpolation. For example, a 45-day horizon lies halfway between the cumulative 30- and 60-day values; it is not half of the 60-day total plus the full 30-day total. The result is arithmetic over Amazon's supplied curve, not a new Friday demand forecast.

Compare forecast units with inventory that can arrive in time

Add on-hand units to only the inbound units the seller says can arrive within lead time. Subtract that available quantity from forecast units at the review horizon, flooring shortage at zero. Estimate days of coverage by inverting the same cumulative unit curve instead of dividing by an unrelated annual average. Keep unavailable, late, reserved, damaged, and unverified inbound quantities out unless the seller deliberately includes and labels them. A modeled shortage does not place or recommend a purchase order.

Check recurring revenue and unit contribution together

Use the supplied forecast revenue curve to estimate revenue exposed by the unit shortage. Separately calculate net selling revenue after the seller-funded Subscribe & Save discount, then subtract percentage and fixed marketplace fees, product cost, fulfillment cost, and other variable cost. Compare per-unit contribution with the seller's floor. Historical lost revenue due to out-of-stock and a retention gap can raise review priority, but neither proves what caused a future cancellation or how much revenue will be recovered.

Separate stock urgency from an uneconomic replenishment

Queue a forecast shortage that clears the contribution floor separately from a shortage whose current discount and costs miss it. Also retain no-shortage rows with weak retention or thin contribution for review without presenting them as stockout emergencies. Verify the live offer, discount funding, forecast refresh, inventory state, inbound timing, supplier constraints, and current program terms before action. The analysis does not guarantee availability or margin, predict retention, change a discount, place an order, contact a subscriber, or modify an Amazon account.
