Why did my Amazon FBA fee preview change after remeasurement?
Reconcile a seller-supplied FBA Fee Preview row with seller measurements, separate dimension, weight, size-band, and fee differences, and build an evidence-first review queue without claiming Amazon's measurement is wrong.
Freeze the exact Fee Preview snapshot
Save the original seller-supplied row with SKU, FNSKU or ASIN, snapshot time, longest, median, and shortest side, length plus girth, package weight, units, size or weight band, currency, and each estimated fee. Do not compare a remembered dashboard number with a later export. Fee previews are estimates tied to a point in time, and a listing, program, inventory, rate, or measurement record may change between snapshots.
Normalize units before calculating any difference
Record the seller's packed measurements and the measurement method, then convert both sources into the same dimension and weight units. Sort seller dimensions before mapping them to longest, median, and shortest side; otherwise a rotated carton can look like three discrepancies. Calculate absolute and percentage differences from unrounded values where available, and state any rounding assumption instead of hiding it inside the result.
Separate measurement, band, and fee questions
First ask whether supplied dimensions or weight diverge beyond a seller-chosen tolerance. Second ask whether the recorded size band differs from the seller's supplied expected band under a dated rule set. Third compare the supplied estimated fee with the seller's own expected fee. These are related review signals, not interchangeable proof. A fee can change with no measurement difference, and a measurement difference does not establish that the marketplace record is erroneous.
Rank by supplied economic impact, not by the largest percentage alone
Multiply the absolute per-unit fee difference by supplied monthly units to estimate a review impact, then keep the per-unit delta and measurement evidence visible. A tiny percentage on a high-volume SKU can matter more than a dramatic difference on one unit. Call this a planning estimate, not recoverable money: volume can change, the preview is not a settled charge, and omitted fees or programs may explain the gap.
Remeasure and verify the current process before escalating
Repeat the packed measurement with a calibrated scale and clear photos, confirm the live product and packaging match the identifiers, and check the current marketplace workflow for measurement review. Preserve dates, units, rule sources, and original exports. A tool can organize the discrepancy and evidence checklist; a human must decide whether and how to use Seller Central. Never assert a fee error, reimbursement eligibility, deadline, or guaranteed adjustment from arithmetic alone.
