Seller guide

When does an Amazon ad search term have enough data for a negative keyword?

Use a complete seller-supplied search-term window, product economics, relevance evidence, and narrow-versus-broad blocking risk to build a human review queue instead of applying a universal click-count rule.

Freeze a complete evidence window

Export one Sponsored Products search-term reporting window after allowing for the seller's normal reporting and conversion lag. Preserve marketplace, currency, campaign, ad group, advertised product, targeting expression, match type, customer search term, clicks, spend, attributed orders, and attributed sales. Keep campaign-manager totals nearby because a search-term report can have a different eligible-row scope. Do not merge partially refreshed days, attribution settings, or currencies to manufacture a larger sample.

Replace a magic click count with seller economics

Choose a no-order spend review threshold from the product's pre-ad unit contribution and the seller's tolerance for acquiring evidence. Clicks add context, but twenty cheap clicks and twenty expensive clicks do not expose the same amount. Compare spend, clicks, average cost per click, normal conversion range, price, and contribution together. A row that crosses a seller-defined threshold becomes eligible for investigation; it is not automatically waste and does not become a campaign instruction.

Check relevance before performance

A clearly incompatible query, wrong product use, or irrelevant ASIN can be a relevance problem even when the spend sample is small, but the product facts must support that judgment. Conversely, a highly relevant term with zero reported orders may be early, seasonal, price-disadvantaged, out of stock, or affected by listing conversion. Keep unsupported relevance, brand, and compatibility assumptions in a manual-review state. Never infer the shopper's intent from the text alone.

Prefer the narrowest reviewed exclusion

Separate a negative-exact candidate for one observed query from a negative-phrase candidate that could block many current and future queries. Before reviewing phrase scope, search every supplied row for profitable, branded, strategic, or product-accurate queries containing the same phrase. Also check whether the candidate belongs at ad-group or campaign scope. Rank narrow exact candidates ahead of broad phrase candidates when both address the same evidence, and preserve protected terms explicitly.

Make the decision reversible and measured

Have an authorized seller review the source row, live targeting, listing, price, inventory, placement, and campaign objective. If the seller chooses an exclusion, record its scope, reason, baseline window, and review date so a comparable later window can be inspected or the change reversed. The report does not prove a search term is unprofitable, irrelevant, or safe to block, and it does not establish an Amazon-required evidence threshold. The analysis must not add a negative keyword or alter a live campaign.

Tools that help with this

Prices below are exact x402 per-call prices. Human card checkout uses fixed $3, $9, and $29 bundles; follow a tool page to see its applicable bundle.

Every paid output is a draft for your review before you publish, appeal, or activate anything. Friday does not access your seller account.
